Former PS charged with fraud

MASERU – THE former Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development, Selloane Qhobela,

has been charged with two counts of fraud and theft.

Qhobela appeared before magistrate Peter Murenzi on Monday afternoon.

The crown says in March this year Qhobela misled the ministry’s financial controller into believing

that an official trip she had taken to Washington DC was not sponsored when she knew that it was fully sponsored.

The crown says she therefore contravened Section 68 subsection 1 of the Penal Code.

In the second charge Qhobela is said to have stolen over M68 000 from the ministry during the same month.

Qhobela is out after paying a bail deposit of M1 600 and surety of M10 000.

Her bail condition is that she attends remands.
