Four Agric officials suspended

MASERU-FOUR Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security officials were this week suspended for alleged fraud and forgery when processing summer cropping claims.
The four officers who are from the Leribe office are ‘Maitumeleng Mahase, Mokhatha Nyesemane, Mohlakola Ranqhoabathe and ‘Mamokete Motheo.

The dubious claims amounted to M800 000.
The Ministry of Agriculture has a budget to help farmers till their fields during summer. Under the model, the government pays half of the tillage cost while the farmer pays the other half.

The tractor owners are hired by the ministry.
The subsidy aims to increase food production.
It is alleged that while processing claims, the four officers connived with tractor owners to make fraudulent claims to the ministry.
