LMPS vow to ‘chain’ Bantu

Maseru – Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) communications and marketing manager Kotsoane Ramakau says they are going to do everything in their power to retain first place in the Vodacom Premier League.

After finishing ninth last season, ‘Semunye’ lead the standings with 13 points after five games and a spectacular start.

Mosito Matela’s charges have won four games, drawn one and are yet to lose. They rose to the top of the premiership on Sunday after previous leaders Kick4Life fell on Sky Battalion’s sword losing 3-2.

Speaking to thepost yesterday, Ramakau said it has been a long time since LMPS have occupied first place but they are not putting themselves under any pressure.

Led by the Lesotho international pair of Nkau Lerotholi and Basia Makepe, LMPS are yet to concede a goal this season. That remarkable record, however, will be tested when they face Bantu on Sunday in this weekend’s marque clash.

The match will be Bantu’s first home game in Mafeteng this season and Ramakau said LMPS are prepared for a hostile atmosphere at the Leshoboro Stadium.

“We are leading the league and we have never been in this position at this time of the season so we want to maintain our position and we can do that by winning against Bantu and getting three points,” Ramakau asserted.

He continued: “We have been preparing well, not just for this game only, but for every game we are going to play. We are determined to rectify all the mistakes we made last season. Normally at this time of the season we are already fighting relegation. If I look at our statistics last season, we were fighting relegation at this point. But even though we were struggling, we still beat Bantu twice. That doesn’t mean we are taking this game for granted. We are not going into this game thinking it’s Bantu, we always beat them. We respect them; Bantu is one of the biggest teams in the league.”

Meanwhile, Bantu communications and marketing manager Motlatsi Mofokeng said ‘A Matšo Matebele’ are planning to play the majority of their home games in Mafeteng from now on.

Bantu hosted their first two home matches this season in Maseru, defeating Rovers 3-1 at Setsoto Stadium and Butha-Buthe Warriors 4-0 at the Lesotho Correctional Services grounds.

“We wish to play our home games in Mafeteng now that Leshoboro Stadium is in good condition,” Mofokeng told thepost yesterday.

“But there might be games we play in Maseru depending on various things like the supporters. If we feel we may get a big turnout in Maseru then we will play here, but the plan is to play in Mafeteng.”

Mofokeng said the club has organised a special event to celebrate Bantu’s first outing in Mafeteng of the 2016/17 campaign.

“This is our first home game in Mafeteng and to mark this day we have decided to do our own back-to-school,” he said. “All the supporters should come wearing school uniform.”

Mofokeng added that Bantu are aware of the history between the two clubs, especially after LMPS completed the league double over the Mafeteng giants last season.

“LMPS is one of the clubs that beat us last season; even if you check the history between the two clubs, they have always won the games against us,” he said.

“However, we have been preparing well. We played against the (Lesotho) Under-20 team on Tuesday and Van Rooyen United in preparation for this game.”
