More charges for Kamoli

More charges for Kamoli

MASERU – FORMER army boss Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli is facing more misery as the prosecution plans to slap him with additional charges.
This was revealed by the crown counsel Shaun Abrahams in court on Tuesday.

Advocate Abrahams also told Justice Onkemetse Bashi Tshosa that he is yet to charge more people who will join Lt Gen Kamoli in the dock.
Advocate Abrahams did not tell the court the charges he will prefer against Lt Gen Kamoli.

He also did not reveal who will join Lt Gen Kamoli in the dock.
The former commander is already charged with 14 attempted murder charges.
He is also charged with the murder of police’s Sub-Inspector Monaheng Ramahloko during the army’s raid on police stations in August 2014.
“The accused together with others committed serious crimes and there are more charges to be added regarding this matter,” Advocate Abrahams said.
He said he realised during his meetings with witnesses last week that they have to secure more supplementary statements.

He said it was necessary for the crown to consider additional charges against Lt Gen Kamoli and also to add more witnesses based on what he gathered in interviews with the witnesses.
Advocate Abrahams explained that since the trial has been delayed for too long he wanted the court to make an order to appoint lawyers for Captain Litekayo Nyakane and Lance Corporal Leutsoa Motsieloa as they always come before court without their representatives.
They are charged together with Lt Gen Kamoli.

Captain Nyakane told the court that he still has a lawyer even though he could not recall when last he met or communicated with him.
Captain Nyakane’s trouble with his lawyer started when he ran out of money.
He said his lawyer Advocate Motiea Teele told him to ask the state to help him with his legal fees.

Lance Corporal Motsieloa also said his lawyer also advised him to “meet the registrar or a Good Samaritan so that I could pay him,” he said.
Justice Tshosa ordered that the case be postponed to November 15 for mention. He said Captain Nyakane together with Lance Corporal Motsieloa should bring along their representatives or the court will order the registrar to appoint lawyers for them.
The judge said if they do not accept the appointment they will have to defend themselves.
