SMD has contributed M450 million to the fiscus since September 2013
SMD employs 659 people, of which 629 are Basotho with a further 150 from the Kao community
Its largest contractors, by value, are Basotho owned
SMD has invested significantly in community projects and infrastructure
— These include the investment of M110 million to bring the powerline to Kao (Liqhobong invested a similar amount)
— SMD built and maintains a 30km access road to Tlaeeng
— A poultry project for the community (egg producing facility)
— Building classrooms at Shishila Primary School
— Supplying building materials for Meeling Primary School and various other school projects
— Providing medical services to the community (clinic, medication and transportation)
