ABC youth wants total retirement for Thabane

MASERU -THE All Basotho Convention (ABC)’s youth league says former Prime Minister Thomas Thabane should retire as both an MP and party leader.

The league’s spokesman, Senator Mphonyane Lebesa, said they are calling on Thabane to leave let go of his parliamentary seat and party leadership because “he has already announced that he is old and tired”.
“We, the ABC Youth League, feel that our leader has to retire because it is tiresome to be an MP and party leader at the same time, especially for a person of his age,” Lebesa said.

“His people at the constituency will still expect him to hold rallies, be at the constituency office and also present their desires and interests in parliament,” he said.
“This is tiring.”

Lebesa said they want Thabane to retire while he is still respected by many ABC members and the Nation at large “before old age cause him make serious mistakes”.
He said every “Mosotho who remembers Thabane’s contribution to the development of this country during his prime will agree that the time for his retirement has come”.

He said they highly appreciate that he has retired as the prime minister “but that is not enough”.

“Another thing is that he will enjoy his ex-prime ministerial benefits sitting at home and he will not attract to himself the criticism that he is being paid twice like his predecessor Pakalitha Mosisili,” Lebesa said.
Mosisili, who willingly withdrew from contesting to a prime minister and leader of his Democratic Congress (DC), has been widely criticized hanging on to his seat in parliament.

“We need a total respect for Ntate Thabane as our leader and parent,” Lebesa said.
Thabane stepped down as Lesotho’s Prime Minister yesterday when he handed over power to his former Finance Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro who was elected at the ABC parliamentary caucus last month.
