Khasipe to head Command Centre

MASERU-THE Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA) boss, Thabo Khasipe, has been appointed the new chief executive officer for the National Emergency Command Centre.

Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro made the announcement on Monday at a press conference held at the Lesotho National Broadcasting Services.
He said Khasipe will be placed on secondment at the Command Centre for a yet undisclosed period.

Khasipe’s task will be to identify skilled people in the public service and recommend their deployment to the Command Centre.
Khasipe is taking over from the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Chief Thesele ‘Maseribane.

Dr Majoro said they are reviewing the operations of the centre so that people with special skills can be deployed.
He said Khasipe will head the Centre in line with the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) Act.

He said Khasipe will lead the team of civil servants who will be deployed to work at the Centre.
The Prime Minister said the subcommittee will now be led by Khasipe personally and principal secretaries will be part of the subcommittee too.
He said even although they are revamping the centre, they will not forget the people who have been working there.

Meanwhile, the Command Centre yesterday released a statement saying Khasipe will be on secondment for two years.
The statement said the subcommittee led by the Prime Minister will be officially inaugurated soon.

Khasipe is a well-respected technocrat. He holds a Masters in Business Administration, a Bachelors’ Degree in Economics with the National University of Lesotho as well as a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi.
He also served as Lesotho’s ambassador to Kuwait.
