Bantu promise fireworks at gala dinner

Maseru – Vodacom Premier League champions Bantu are promising fireworks when they host their annual gala dinner on August 5 at Maseru Avani.
In recent years the Mafeteng side’s gala dinner has boomed into a star-studded affair and ‘A Matšo Matebele’ say this year will be no different with the club plotting to bring together a collection of high-profile names again.

At last year’s event Bantu lured actors from popular South African soapie Muvhango led by leading actress Sindi Dlathu who is known as Thandaza in the television show.
Dingaan Mokebe — who plays the character of James Motsamai — and Palo Mokoailane – who is known as Pheko — also attended and rubbed shoulders with local players and fans.
Meanwhile, in March, as part of the club’s 90th anniversary celebrations, Bantu again went big by inviting star South African actors — Cornet Mamabolo, who plays the character of Tboso on Skeem Skaam, and Buhle Sithole, who is known as Busi on Muvhango —to a league match against Lioli.
Speaking to thepost, Bantu communication and marketing manager Moeketsi Matooane said he could not confirm this year’s guest list but promised the gala dinner will be biggest yet as ‘A Matšo Matebele’ look to attract potential sponsors and raise money for the club.

“We are still talking with some of the people that attended the gala dinner last year (but) I cannot confirm at the moment; it would be premature if I can say anything about the guests,” Matooane said.
“The problem we have here at home is we don’t have sponsorship,” he said. “With this gala dinner we are hoping to attract companies so we can talk with some (of them) and also to make the club known to potential sponsors.”

The Mafeteng club held its first gala dinner in 2012 and Matooane hailed the event’s growth. He said ‘A Matso Matebele’ want to make this year’s event a similar success and tickets are already available. One successful gala dinner Bantu fans will always remember was in 2014 when Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune and his teammates George Maluleka and George Lebese stole the show.

“Every year the gala dinner we host becomes successful in its own way, people are always looking forward to it because it is always different,” Matooane said.
“Having people from outside the country attend the gala dinner also helps in making the club known beyond our borders.”
