Body to mediate in taekwondo row

MASERU-The independent body appointed by the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) to deal with issues between Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) and some of its members is set to meet with both parties today to try and resolve the problems between the two sides.

LTA spokesperson Sek’hok’he Molikoe said holding new executive elections will depend on whether the two parties can reach an agreement or not.
The issues within the LTA have even escalated to the courts where three clubs led by former LTA president Moshoeshoe Molapo filed a case to stop LTA from hosting its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections.

“At the moment we don’t know when (we will hold elections), we have a meeting (today) with the independent body appointed by LSRC to deal with the issues that other members have. If we can come to an agreement then we will know when,” Molikoe said.
LTA were supposed to have held their elections last year but could not because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

When they eventually tried to host them this year, they were stopped by a High Court judgment that ruled that about nine clubs should be excluded from the AGM and elections because their membership had been terminated and the clubs never reapplied.

On March 13, the association was supposed to host the elections but they were cancelled at the last minute by the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC).
