Econet Soccer Spectacular bursts into life

MASERU – The 2018 Econet Soccer Spectacular will take centre stage this weekend at Setsoto Stadium.
The showpiece will be contested by four teams that received the most votes in a SMS voting competition that began two weeks ago and ended at midnight yesterday.
The one-day tournament, which will be played on Saturday, is meant to help the league’s clubs raise funds before the new Econet Premier League season begins on September 15.

As of 3:30 yesterday afternoon, the top teams in the voting were Lioli with 8 155 votes, followed by Bantu with 6 396, Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) with 5 276 and Linare with 4 925.
The Econet Soccer Spectacular will be the last pre-season tournament before the new season begins and is one of the innovations promised by Econet when it took over the sponsorship of the league in September 2017.

Although there are no prize monies, football fans can look forward to a football fiesta this weekend and their appetite has no doubt been whetted by Econet’s constant votes’ updates throughout the SMS voting process.

All the money raised from the voting will be distributed to the league’s 14 clubs. Meanwhile, one third of all gate-takings will be shared amongst the four competing teams as prize money using the following ratio – 40 percent for the tournament winner, 30 percent for the runner-up and 15 percent shared by the two semi-final losers.
The remaining two thirds of gate-takings will be shared equally amongst all 14 Econet Premier League clubs.

The spirit behind the tournament and all other activities Econet is undertaking in its Econet Premier League Sponsorship Project is to create a new conscience and purpose within all local stakeholders in football, one of working together in unity to achieve growth and development of local football.
In unity and acting with responsibility, we shall win, says Econet.
