Econet to reward top player, coach

Maseru – The Econet Premier League has revealed its nominees for the player and coach of the month for September.
The awards are a first-time addition to Lesotho football and they will allow fans to vote for their top player and coach over a month of premiership action until the end of the season.

Voting lines for September’s awards are open until next Tuesday with the top player set to win M3 500 while the chosen coach will receive M2 500.
In the player of the month race, log leaders Bantu lead the way with two nominations while Lioli, Liphakoe and Majantja have one each.
The favourites are the Bantu duo of midfielder Lindokuhle Phungulwa and goalkeeper Thabo Selisa who have been stand-out performers for the champions.

Phungulwa’s fine start to the season has already seen him claim the player of the tournament award during Bantu’s triumphant Independence Cup campaign earlier this month. Also on the list is Lioli newcomer Tankiso Tabi who has quickly become a fan favourite at ‘Tse Nala’ while Liphakoe’s Setho Moshoeshoe and Majantja’s Keketso Tlhabi have also been recognised for their performances during September.
In the coaching category Bantu’s James Madidilane and Majantja’s Motlatsi Shale are the favourites – ‘A Matšo Matebele’ won all three of their games in September while Shale has worked wonders at the newly-promoted Mohale’s Hoek club.

The third contender is Halemakale Mahlaha who guided Lioli to three wins in September but was sacked two weeks ago.
The monthly player and coach awards are a new innovation that came with Econet’s bumper sponsorship of the premier league which was unveiled in August.

Econet replaced Vodacom Lesotho as top-flight sponsors at the start of the campaign and will fork out M2 million every season for the next three years. The accolades will be given until the end of the season and the sponsors say they are meant to encourage and motivate players.
There are also categories for the referee and media personality of the month however they are not open to the public to decide.
The public can vote for their favourite player and coach by sending their unique code to 65250. Each SMS will cost M1 and voting closes on October 31.
