In-form Matlama to take on Likhopo

MASERU – Matlama are riding high and ‘Tse Putsoa’ say they want to enjoy the moment while being careful not to allow complacency to creep into the squad. The high-flying giants are second in the Econet Premier League with 29 points from 15 games. They trail leaders Bantu by four points and have only lost once in their last 11 matches.

However, Matlama communication and marketing manager Tankiso Moletsane insists they are taking each game as it comes and will not undermine any team they come across.

Matlama continued their great run in 2018 last Saturday with a 2-0 win over Sky Battalion 2-0.
Moletsane credited the side’s impressive run to the great relationship between the players and coach Mosito Matela.
He continued that despite Likhopo’s struggles, the Pitso Ground outfit will not undermine their opponents and are preparing for the game just as any other. The ‘Red Army’ are second from bottom in the league with only 10 points from 15 matches.

“Confidence is very high in the team right now from the management to the players, down to the fans,” Moletsane said.
“We are feeling good but we are not going to let our guards down and think we have arrived and be arrogant.”
“We will not take this game lightly,” he added.

“Every team that is in the league right now it’s because they deserve to be here and they are capable, and we know teams that are struggling are very dangerous, so we will not undermine them.”

Moletsane said the players’ growing familiarity means they now know each other’s weaknesses and are able to cover for one another during matches. It has been the secret to Matlama’s league-best haul of 21 points from their last 30 available, he said.

“Like I said before, we struggled at the beginning (of the season) because we did not end last season well and that brought a lot of pressure on us but a few wins after that things have changed. We are now second in the log which is what we needed,” Moletsane said.
“The team that we have now is capable,” he added.

“They know each other well. 80 percent of them have been together for around five years. We are just making additions here and there and the additions are slotting in fine. Last year we brought the young goalkeeper Monaheng Ramalefane who has been very good for us. We also brought in Michael Mireku.”
