Khotlele to compete at Tokyo games

MASERU – Lesotho Paralympic athlete Litšitso Khotlele is still expected to participate in the discus throw event at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo on Sunday.
This is despite that Khotlele came into contact with members of Team Lesotho who tested positive for Covid-19 on their arrival in Japan.
The update was confirmed by Paralympics Lesotho president Limpho Rakoto yesterday.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games started on Tuesday and end on September 5.
Earlier this week Rakoto released a statement announcing that two Team Lesotho officials, a coach and team manager, returned positive Covid-19 results during testing done on arrival in Tokyo last weekend.
The pair was taken to a hotel to quarantine for 14 days and will likely miss watching Khotlele live in action on Sunday.
Rakoto said both had been vaccinated for Covid-19 prior to the trip and their health is relatively stable.

“The other two members who had travelled with them, namely the only athlete that we have, being Litšitso Khotlele and the team doctor, are considered as close contacts,” Rakoto said.
“These contact persons are also undergoing close monitoring with minimal interaction from the public and other athletes. Fortunately, the athlete is allowed to attend training at agreed scheduled times. The team doctor is with her, and proper counselling is being conducted,” she said in a statement.

Khotlele missed out on the opportunity to raise Lesotho’s flag during the opening ceremony on Tuesday as a precaution.
Rakoto said it was regrettable the flag was raised by a volunteer who was assigned to Paralympics Lesotho, and said they understand it deprived Basotho a chance to witness the national flag being raised by their own athlete.
Khotlele will compete in the F61-F64 category and pleaded with Basotho to be behind the team in Tokyo.
