The National Basketball League (NBL) Top 8 playoffs took place at the National University of Lesotho last weekend.

According to Lesotho Basketball Association (LBA) public relations officer, Ratšolo Molupe, the play offs are played in a best of three games series.

“We are playing a best of three games where a team with more points wins,” he said.

He added that if a team forfeits one of its games it is knocked out of the tournament giving the winning team an instant passage to the Top 4.

“If a team forfeits its matches they are instantly knocked out of the tournament, elevating another team to Top 4,” he said.

Lerotholi Polytechnic (LP) played Shines, where Shines won two games in a row.

KTA All Stars was bound to play Philippines although Philippines forfeited the game, earning KTA an instant Top 4 position.

Bashana Ba Heso (BBH) which is among the best four teams in the league proved itself worthy of the top four as well beating Rovers.

In the female category, KTA All-Stars won 2-1 in their three game series, promoting it to the finals.

The finals date is yet to be set where Shooting Riffles and KTA All Stars will be favourites to compete for the championship.

The league commenced with eight ladies teams of which two dropped out due to academic commitments.

According to Molupe, two teams, BBH and Bokamoso, had to discontinue their participation in the league as most of their members are high school students.

“The two teams are made up of high school students who have school commitments. The training together with the league (games) inconvenienced their school commitments hence they had to drop out,” he said.

Molupe added that the places of LUCT and Lichocha in the Top 4 finals are yet to be decided.
