Lefa to host referees training course

MASERU – The Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) Referees Committee is set to host a referees training course at the end of this month.
The course will be held to equip local referees with new skills and introduce law changes that will be implemented next season.
According to Maponyane Letsie, a senior member of the Referees Committee, it is important to host the seminar before July 1 because all matches after that date will be played using the new laws.

Letsie said it is vital for local referees to be aware of the law changes and not be left behind their peers. About 30 match officials including FIFA, Econet Premier League and A-Division referees are expected to attend the course.
“There are many changes coming into the new season and those changes should be implemented by July 1 and that is why we have to host this training programme before that date,” Letsie said.

He added: “These new rules will be applied in the friendly matches that are coming after July 1. It is important that we equip our referees now in time so that they know how to behave in certain situations on the field.”

The referees’ training course will be followed immediately by a match assessors’ seminar on July 14.
Letsie said the course will be used to also alert match assessors about changes coming into effect in the new season.

He said the assessors will be taught how to write match reports and shown critical areas to look out for on the field when a game is on-going.
“It is possible that our (Econet Premier League season) will start in August and therefore we need to be ready,” Letsie said.

“The referees also need to be reminded of the laws of the game. The match assessors will also be there,” he continued.
“We will be looking at different things and analysing the mistakes of last season. We don’t want to repeat the same mistakes this season.”
