Likuena face Bafana-bafana

MASERU – The Lesotho national team, Likuena, will face-off against neighbours South Africa on Sunday at Setsoto Stadium in the first round of the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
The second leg will be played next weekend at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.
The winner of the tie will proceed to face the winner between Mauritius and Zimbabwe for a place in next year’s finals in Cameroon.

Only players based locally in their domestic leagues are eligible to play in the CHAN tournament and South Africa, as expected, has called up a squad of young and unknown players.
It is a different story for Lesotho. The only Likuena regulars that will miss the tie are Tumelo Khutlang, Tšoarelo Bereng, Luciano Matsoso, Nkoto Masoabi and Motebang Sera who ply their trade in South Africa and United States based Lesia Thetsane.

Interim Likuena coach Leslie Notši has made other changes to the squad that finished fourth at the COSAFA Cup in Durban last month but the majority of players remain the same.
Notši has been preparing the team since he was confirmed as caretaker coach two weeks ago.
Likuena travelled to Botswana last weekend where they played two friendly games against Botswana. The games finished 2-2 and 1-1.

Notši said he used the trip to asses Likuena’s tactical play and if the players are responding well to what they have been working on in training.
Notši was roped in late to lead the national team in the absence of head coach Moses Maliehe who has been given leave by the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) because of illness.
Despite his short time with Likuena, Notši is determined to see Lesotho win the tie against South Africa and progress to the next stage.

Lesotho Correctional Service coach Mpitsa Marai and Bantu mentor James Madidilane form part of the technical team working with Notši. The three also worked together at the COSAFA Cup in Durban.
Tickets for Sunday’s tie game are already on sale at M50 apiece. The gates at Setsoto will be opened early in the morning around 09:00 and be closed around 13:00 as the match is scheduled to start at 14:00.
After the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that was held in Egypt, Likuena will not be taking this game lightly and want to proceed to the next round.
