Likuena in high spirits

MASERU-Lesotho head coach Thabo Senong says his charges are in high spirits and are looking forward to their final two games of 2021 Africa Cups of Nations (AFCON) qualifying against Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
Likuena have a mathematical chance of qualifying from Group L but their chances heavily depend on how other teams do in the group.

Quite frankly, Likuena could win both games and still not qualify, however, the technical team is prioritising performance over results and Senong said if the team’s performances are good, results will come.
Likuena have been in camp for several weeks now. Senong will be without Lisema Lebokollane and Jane Thabantšo in both games as they have been ruled out with injuries.

In preparation for the games Likuena played friendly matches against Free State Stars and Orlando Pirates and while the players may be fit, Senong admitted that training fitness is not similar to match fitness.
“Let’s minimise mistakes when we attack and defend when we manage set pieces,” Senong said.

“Let’s always make sure we enjoy the process because football is what we love and we must enjoy but with responsibility. We are working on teaching the players to focus and enjoy, implement our game plan with responsibility. The result is the end product which is what we are looking for,” he said.

Senong said Likuena have been a match for all their opponents in Group L which also includes Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Benin.
“Against Nigeria, we didn’t do badly, against Benin we didn’t do badly, we were disciplined and responsible but not creative enough,” he said.
“It’s important to be creative, create problems in Sierra Leone’s half on Saturday; we can get goals.”
