Lioli, Matlama clash in Uhuru Cup

MASERU – Lioli and Matlama will clash in this year’s edition of Independence Cup next Saturday after the two football giants were drawn against each other in Wednesday’s draw at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena.

The annual showpiece celebrating the country’s independence is contested by four teams that finished at the top of the league the previous season and the winners of last year’s edition Bantu have been drawn against Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) in the other semi-final.

The tournament will take two days with the semi-final next Saturday. The final will be played next Sunday and will be followed by trophy presentation and awards ceremony. Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) president Salemane Phafane urged the teams to tell their supporters and behave while they are at the stadium.
He pleaded with the supporters to stop going to grounds while drunk and although he acknowledged the clubs have been working hard to end this unacceptable behaviour that is becoming a trend in football, Phafane insisted teams have to do more.
