Lioli seek to bounce back against LCS

Maseru – After the disappointment of losing ground in the Econet Premier League title race last weekend, Lioli return to action on Saturday when they look to bounce back against Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS). On Sunday, ‘Tse Nala’ were put to the sword by rivals Bantu losing 4-1. The result left the Teyateyaneng giants seven points behind the Mafeteng side making it almost impossible for Lioli to win the league title. Bantu need just six points from their remaining four games to secure the championship.

Lioli, as a result, are facing the club’s first trophyless season since 2012. Their weekend opponents ‘Masheshena’ are sixth on the log and are still fighting for a top four finish. LCS go into Saturday’s game highly motivated after beating relegation threatened Likhopo 2-0 last weekend to move to within just four points of fourth placed Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) on the table. A victory over Lioli could see Mpitsa Marai’s side move just a point from fourth depending on the results of LDF and Kick4Life, the two sides above them.

Another mouth-watering clash this weekend is between third placed Matlama and fifth placed Kick4Life. ‘Tse Putsoa’ were stunned 2-1 by LDF on Sunday and Matlama head coach Mosito Matela bemoaned a long break for his team after their memorable Lesotho National Insurance Top 8 triumph four weeks ago. After Sunday’s loss Matela said he felt his players were rusty and lacked match fitness as they had not been involved in any action for three weeks. However, ‘Tse Putsoa’ have a chance to bounce back this Sunday when they take on Kick4Life in what may turn out to be the game of the weekend.
