LVA picks provisional Under-20 squad

MASERU- The Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) held trials to select players to join a provisional national Under-20 squad that will represent Lesotho in the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games in December.
The trials were held last weekend at Lerotholi Polytechnic.

The 2020 regional youth games will be held in Maseru for the first time at the end of the year.
According to LVA general secretary Sebolelo Ntlhokoe, a 30-player squad was selected last year during the league season.
Ntlhokoe said new additions will be made to the squad and then a final selection of 12 players will be made in November to represent the country at the Region 5 Games.

“We are training a large group so that we can be able to pick the best players in November, (we are) preparing them for the upcoming AUSC Region 5 Youth Games,” she said.

“We do not want to train the final selection because some players might show interest now but lose it later since we still have got a long way ahead of the games,” she continued.

Ntlhokoe said despite the financial crisis faced by the Ministry of Sports and its struggle to issue funds to the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) to facilitate preparations, the LVA is going ahead with training.

“We are continuing with the preparation for the games because we have got the funds from the LSRC and we are going to host training camps during the school holidays so that players can have time together since some of our players are students”, Ntlhokoe said.
Ntlhokoe said the LVA will participate in international tournaments over the coming months to give the players “the game’s spirit and help them win”.
