Matlama axe 8 players

Maseru – After a disappointing seventh place finish in the Vodacom Premier League last season, Matlama have confirmed the release of eight players. The mass exodus at Pitso Ground sees the likes of Tokelo Majoro return to Lioli from a loan spell while Relebohile Mabone has been allowed to leave Matlama on a season-long loan to Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS). Goalkeeper Thabiso Lichaba, who played second fiddle to Monaheng Ramalefane last season, also joins the list of players that have been released by ‘Tse Putsoa’.

Lichaba is rumoured to be joining Bantu and has already started training with the Vodacom Premier League champions.
According to Matlama communications and marketing manager Tankiso Moletsane, the out-going players have been allowed to find game time elsewhere. Other players leaving the club are Letuka Mosehlenyane, Thabo Tekane and Tšiu Moorosi.

Moletsane said Matlama are preparing to challenge for the league title this season and need players who are going to make significant contributions.
“The players have been allowed to go seek game time. We are preparing for the new season and these players want game time while we want players that are going to perform and win us matches. What’s important is to win now,” Moletsane said.

“If you look at Thabo (Tekane) and Feso (Lichaba), they have been at Matlama for almost six seasons but have made few appearances for the team. That shows you that they haven’t been doing well. Things haven’t been going well for them here and they need game time and that’s why we released him,” he added.

With eight players on their way out, Matlama are close to completing several incoming transfers even though Moletsane refused to reveal names.
One player believed to be close to sealing a move to ‘Tse Putsoa’, however, is Bantu striker Nzenze Nkulu who starred while on loan at Linare last season.

The Congolese striker struck 17 goals for Linare last term to finish only behind Lesotho Defence Force’s Mojela Letsie in the top scorers’ charts.
After their toothless 2016/17 campaign, Matlama earmarked Nkulu as the man to solve their goal-scoring woes and hope to finalise a deal by next week.
