Matlama dominate awards nominees

2015/16 Vodacom Premier League runners up Matlama dominate the end of season league awards nominees with two players and coach Moses Maliehe nominated in different categories.

The contenders for this year’s end of season honours were released on Monday.

Champions Lioli also feature prominently with the nomination of one player and coach Mosholi Mokhothu who is the favourite to win the coach of the year award after delivering the championship to Teyateyaneng.

The awards ceremony will be held on July 6 at Avani Maseru.

The player of the season prize will be strongly contested with Matlama duo Jane Thaba-Ntšo and Motebang Sera in line for the coveted accolade alongside Lioli star Jeremea Kamela.

Speaking to thepost yesterday, Sera, who finished as the league’s top scorer with 14 goals, said he is happy his efforts have been recognised.

“I am very happy, this was one of my goals before the season started,” he said. “I wanted to win the player of the season award and being nominated in the category gives me hope. But, anyone who will win it would be deserving. I have been nominated against the best players, one being my teammate who had a great season.”

Sera added: “It makes me happy to see that my efforts have been recognised. I am confident that I will it but, like I said, it’s a tough one. I enjoyed my combination with Thaba-Ntšo this past season. He has been motivating me and I have also been doing the same with him.”

Sera is guaranteed the top goalscorer award and its M3000 prize money, however.

“I told myself that I want to finish the season as the top goalscorer. I set a target of 25 goals. I did not reach it but I am happy to win this award,” he said.
