Matlama, Lioli lock horns

Maseru – The Econet Premier League is back this weekend after the Christmas break, and the New Year starts with a blockbuster fixture between Matlama and Lioli.
The game will be played at Setsoto Stadium in a double header that will be kick-started by a match between Likhopo and Bantu.
The first game will kick-off at 4pm with the main event featuring ‘Tse Putsoa’ and ‘Tse Nala’ at 6pm.

Matlama are second on the log behind Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) but they have played two games less and are looking to play catch-up. If ‘Tse Putsoa’ win, they will close the gap between them and LCS to just a point.
Matlama head coach, Thabile Secker, says they have prepared themselves thoroughly for this game but admits it will not be a walk in the park for them against their eternal rivals.
Lioli have been struggling to get results and have dropped out of the top eight for now and they will be looking to regain their confidence and get back to winning ways.

The league title may be out of Lioli’s reach given their position now but they can still fight for a top four spot and assistant coach Mosholi Mokhothu a few weeks ago stressed the importance of having a chance to defend the Independence Top 4 Cup they won in October.
“We prepared ourselves very well for this game,” Matlama coach Secker said.

“It will not be a walk in the park but we will try hard to win. The Christmas break helped us to rebuild but, on the issue of momentum, breaks are not blessings because they do affect the team’s performance.“Our weekend plan will be determined by injuries during practices this week but, all in all, we will play our usual formation,” he continued.

Secker added: “Our players are yet to receive assessments from our team doctors this week so that will see if our injured players will be available. It is very important for us to win this game because LCS has points in their hands while we have two games in hand. All we want for our team is to win the title this season.”
