MGC pumps M500 000 into Roof of Africa

MASERU –  Matekane Group of Companies (MGC) has pumped a total of M540 000 into next month’s 2019 Roof of Africa motorbike race.
This year’s showpiece will run from December 4 to 7 and MGC will back Lesotho’s local contingent by supporting their efforts on and off the track.
MGC has bought race kits for nine local riders.

It has also taken their bikes to KTM, a motorcycle manufacturer based in South Africa, for tune-ups in order to be race ready.
The bikes have been branded and MGC will also transport the riders’ families to support them over the course of the three-day off-road endurance race.
This year, 10 local riders will compete in the Roof of Africa with three contesting the silver category and seven in the bronze section.
Teboho Moretlo, Basia Maseatile and Joseph Motenane will tackle the silver category while Tobatsi Maseatile, Nkhasi Matete, Tšolo Timello, Peter Andrews, Shabeer Moosa, Moshate Letlela and Sechaba Chabeli will enter the bronze category.

As is tradition, the race will start with the ‘Round the Houses’ stage in Maseru to determine the line-up for the main off-road racing on Saturday and Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of MGC, the company’s head of communications and marketing, ‘Mamotake Matekane said MGC is committed to nurturing the sport and its riders.
“The riders are committed and we are behind them, as MGC we will support them,” Matekane said.

“This year we have committed our own helicopter to help with coverage and emergencies for the riders. This we do very well. Locally we are not only talking about riders. Even as a local company we are producing good quality products that people from outside (the country) prefer,” she said.
“To our riders the message from Ntate Matekane is that the minute you get connected to MGC we are expecting certain things from you. We are expecting that when we see you walking around wearing the MGC brand that you be like MGC. We do good things here.”
