Ousted Majantja boss speaks on loss

MASERU  – Ousted Majantja president Kutloano Sello says he wants nothing to do with the Mohale’s Hoek outfit anymore and will not contest the club’s presidential elections again. Majantja held special elections last week where Sello was running for the club’s presidential post but he was beaten by Mpho Raithule who garnered 208 votes to Sello’s 87.

Heading into the elections Majantja’s board had been marred by infighting and accusations towards Sello of wrongfully dismissing committee members. Sello’s detractors accused him of calling for an early election because he was hoping to claim an easy win. However, speaking to thepost yesterday, Sello gave a different version of events. “When we first got in the office (in 2016) we were given the previous committee’s structure and I asked to work with some members of the previous committee,” he said.

“I did not contest for elections in the first place, I was approached to serve the team and, because I was free, I found it worthy to work for the team. But I will never contest for elections,” Sello fumed. Majantja communications and marketing manager Tšepang Makakula admitted conflicts within the previous committee forced the club to hold early elections.

He said the infighting even affected the team’s on-field performance. Newly-promoted Majantja have plummeted to ninth place in the 13-team Econet Premier League after flying as high as the top four in the season’s opening weeks.

“That issue of the fighting between the executive members affected the performance of the team,” Makakula told thepost yesterday.
“The team was doing well until (the board) started fighting. Sello dismissed the members that did not agree with him and did so illegally. He called for an early election hoping he was going to win,” he added.

“Right now the new board’s mandate is to make sure the club stays in the premier league. We don’t want our team to go back to the A-Division.”

Vice-President: Malefane Mothibe
