Sera: a confident man

MASERU – Matlama hit-man Motebang Sera is confident he can still hit the 20 goal target he set for himself at the beginning of the season and clinch the Econet Premier League golden boot award.
Sera has scored 13 goals for the log leaders and is seven goals shy of his target with five games to go for Matlama.

The Lesotho international admits he thought he would have 16 or 17 goals by now but said he is keeping faith he will reach his target.
He said the only thing he is thinking about right now is scoring goals and helping his team as much as he can in every game.

After failing to defend their Lesotho National Insurance Group (LNIG) Top 8 trophy two weeks ago, Sera said winning the Econet Premiership is not in their minds at the moment
“We are taking it one game at a time,” he insisted.
According to Sera, Matlama don’t have the luxury of losing focus and dropping points despite their five point lead at the top.

He said the season is at a critical stage and ‘Tse Putsoa’ are aware that any slipups will put them under massive pressure from the chasing duo of Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) and defending champions Bantu.
Matlama are in action on Monday when they take on Majantja.
By then Matlama will have played the same number of games as Bantu who are in action on Friday and Monday.
“My target was to score 20 goals and I still believe I will reach the target even now,” Sera told thepost.

“I am feeling good, I am match fit and I am going to the gym. I have played a lot of games across the season, so match fitness comes naturally. I thought by now I would have scored at least 16 or 17 but I will get there, there is still time, I just want to score.” he said.
Sera said confidence is high in the Matlama camp as they seek to win a first league championship since 2010.

In fact, he said ‘Tse Putsoa’ feel unbeatable right now.
“Everybody is feeling happy and I don’t think we can lose a game,” Sera said.
“We are taking it one game at a time and I think our approach is working quite well for us at the moment, we just have to continue with it. Everybody is happy. There is pressure, of course, but I think we are doing the right things and we don’t think we can lose games. We are not thinking about (title rivals) Bantu or what they do.

If we can continue to win our games and get three points, then we shouldn’t care what they are doing because we will win the league either way. We just have to focus on ourselves and getting three points in every game,” he continued.
The Likuena international, who now the golden boot for the 2016/17 campaign, has had a busy season with his team and the national side.
Sera was involved in all of Lesotho’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers over the past season.

Domestically, his goals have been crucial for Matlama as they look to end a nine-year league title drought and clinch a record-extending 10th championship.
“We have come close to winning the league in the past but we have never been in this position,” Sera said.
“It is time to concentrate on our jobs.”
