Sky Battalion sign Mat’soele from Liphakoe

Maseru – Sky Battalion general manager Samuel Phulane has lauded the signing of Thabo Matšoele from Liphakoe.  The striker has joined the Vodacom Premier League new boys on a free transfer and Phulane said Matšoele’s acquisition will bring much needed experience to ‘SK’.

Matsoele has been one of the revelations of the 2016/17 campaign; he sits fourth in the top scorers’ charts with eight goals and was a fan favourite in Quthing.
Phulane said although Sky Battalion have enjoyed a fine start to the season, they lacked a player of Matšoele’s class. Despite defeats in their last two league outings, Sky Battalion are sixth in the Vodacom premiership with 24 points from 15 games and could still have a say in the race for a top four place.

‘SK’ are only four points adrift of fourth-placed Lesotho Correctional Service. “(Matsoele) is a Sky Battalion player as we speak, it is confirmed,” a delighted Phulane said yesterday.
“We signed him on a free transfer. We needed that kind of player in that (attacking) position. Even though we did well in the first round, that’s where we were lacking and we are hoping we will be stronger with his arrival.”

Phulane added that ‘SK’ have achieved their mandate this season which was to retain their premier league status.  With survival secured, Sky Battalion are now shifting their sights to loftier targets and Phulane said Matšoele’s arrival will aid in their push for a top eight finish, at least. “Our mandate this season was to keep the club in the premier league and now going forward we are looking to fight for a top eight finish and, if possible, even a top four spot. We hope with his experience we can push further,” he said.
Matšoele’s hunt for goals with his new club will begin when Sky Battalion host struggling Linare in the Vodacom Premier League on Sunday and Phulane said he hopes the hit-man carries on his impressive displays.

“If he continues being lethal in front of goals he might earn himself the top goal-scorer award at the end of the season,” he said.
