Top clubs battle for Alliance Winter Challenge trophy

The Alliance Winter Challenge is this weekend’s main attraction with four top-flight clubs set to battle it out for gold at Setsoto Stadium.

The four teams are Matlama, Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS), Lioli and Sundawana.

On Saturday, last year’s winners Matlama will battle Sundawana in the first semi-final with Lioli versus LCS scheduled to follow afterwards. The final will be played on Sunday.

Speaking yesterday, Lioli communications and marketing manager Tšeliso Lerata said ‘Tse Nala’ are in top shape and ready to add to their growing trophy cabinet.

He said the only player that will miss out is goalkeeper Mohau Kuenane who is nursing an injury and keeping fit at Lehakoe Recreational Centre.

“Everyone is available for this weekend; it is up to the coach to select who he wants to play. We are going to this tournament to win, that’s our aim,” he said.

Lerata also said there is no possibility players on trial at the club would be given a chance to play in the tournament even if it does not fall under the premier league.

“Our aim is not to confuse our supporters. A player that will put on a Lioli jersey has to be a player that is on our books. We don’t want our supporters to see a player today and tomorrow they see him playing for another team, it is confusing,” he said.

Lerata also revealed goalkeeper Liteboho Mokhehle is back from trials in South Africa. Mokhehle as well as ‘Tse Nala’ strikers Nkoto Masoabi and Tšepo Lekhooana underwent trials at two unnamed National First Division sides last week.

“Liteboho is back in the country and is training with the team as we speak. He is preparing for the Alliance Winter Tournament this weekend. For now we don’t know how his trials went, but by next week we should know. We are expecting a letter from the team (where he went on trial),” Lerata said.

He added: “(Masoabi and Lekhooana) have not arrived yet but I am sure they will arrive any time soon.”
