MASERU – ECONET Telecom Lesotho handed a Toyota GD6 and M200 000 cheque to two winners of the Baso200 Campaign competition last Friday in Mafeteng.
The campaign, launched on November 29 last year, is part of the nationwide celebrations marking Lesotho’s bicentennial.
Atang Mphale received a new Toyota GD6 as the grand prize, while ’Marethabile Thakaso received a cheque for M200 000.
Speaking at the event, the public relations officer at Econet, Retšelisitsoe Nkhahle, said throughout the campaign, Econet proudly awarded approximately M200 000 in daily, weekly and monthly prizes.
He also mentioned that the smartphones and airtime were part of the prizes.
At least 545 customers pocketed smartphones and airtime.

“As Econet, we are deeply grateful to all Basotho for embracing the Baso200 campaign with such overwhelming support,” Nkhahle said.
“Your support has made the campaign a resounding success,” he said.
“Today, as we hand over the keys of a brand new Toyota GD6 to Atang Mphale and the final cheque of M200 000 00 to ’Marethabile Thakaso, we celebrate not only their wins but the spirit of togetherness and excitement that Baso200 has brought to our nation.”
He thanked the Econet customers for being the biggest supporters, saying it is by them that the Econet business has grown to the point where it is today.
Mphale expressed his excitement and gratitude, saying that winning this brand-new car still felt like a dream.
“I am truly thankful to Econet for the life-changing gift given to me,” Mphale said.
“The Baso200 Campaign has given hope and joy to many of us, and today I am using proof that dreams do come true,” he said.
He also said that this is also a sign that winning can be for everyone, because he also did not think that he could one day be a winner.
He thanked Econet for other gifts awarded to Basotho, saying “this shows that you are indeed committed to giving back to the community”.
Thakaso said she is overjoyed and humbled.
“I would like to thank Econet for the incredible prize and for always finding ways to give back to its customers,” Thakaso said.
