MASERU – VODACOM Lesotho donated nine computers and learning software to Linotšing High School last Friday.
The telecommunications company also connected the school to the internet. A spacious room has been turned into a state-of-the-art computer lab.
The cost of the computers was estimated at M176 000.
The donation is expected to improve digital literacy for students at Linotšing High School as the new computer lab is equipped with high performance desktop computers, internet access and interactive learning software.
The facility is designed to provide students with essential digital skills preparing them for the demands of the 21st century workforce and expanding their learning horizons.
The Vodacom External Affairs and Policy Manager, Katleho Pefole, said the communications company underscored its commitment to education and national progress.
“This computer lab is a concrete demonstration of our commitment to support the government’s programme to enhance learning through digital technology,” Pefole said.
He said they are confident that the computer lab will provide learners from Linotšing and neighboring schools with invaluable access to digital resources, including virtual experiments and ultimately enriching their educational journey.
Linotšing High School principal, ’Masakoane Mathaba, said the profound and lasting impact of the donation is an investment in their students for future learning endeavours.
Mathaba said this is more than just a computer lab but a beacon of hope for students.
“We are deeply grateful for Vodacom Lesotho as it contributed in sharing our vision of empowering students through Information Communication Technology (ICT),” Mathaba said.
She urged all neighbouring schools to come and utilise the resources.
On behalf of the students, Rapelang Tlali, shared her enthusiasm saying the computer lab is a source of hope that will brighten their future.
“This initiative is a beacon of hope in our challenging life,” Tlali said.
Ntšilo Pitso, representing the Ministry of Education and Training in Leribe district, urged students to embrace the opportunity for their future.
Pitso urged the schools and community to take ownership of the new facility ensuring its long term use.
“My challenge to the students is to fully embrace this resource and graduate with the vital digital skills that will empower their future,” Pitso said.
