MASERU – Lesotho is represented across four sporting codes at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games which started yesterday.
20 athletes — seven females and 13 males — have been sent out by the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) with the athletes having been selected by their respective federations. Here is the selected schedule of Team Lesotho according to the Commonwealth Games official website.
Friday, April 6
Bafokeng Moeti will make an appearance in the 69 kilograms weightlifting tournament.
Sunday, April 8
There are several activities lined up but it is the men’s 5 000 metres race that Basotho will be looking forward to with Badboy Toka and Ramolefi Motsieloa in action in the event.
Monday, April 9
Another interesting one: the men’s 100 metres race where Lesotho’s Mosito Lehata will be in action. There is also the women’s 10 000 metres race where Lineo Chaka will be representing the country.
Tuesday, April 10
Lesotho has Lineo Sechele as a representative in the women’s triple jump. On the same day Mokulubete Makatise should be in action in the women’s 1 500 metres race while cyclist Malefetsane Lesofe will compete in the men’s individual time trial in the cycling road race event.
Thursday, 12 April
Mosito Lehata will compete in the men’s 200 metres sprints. Also in action will be Lesotho’s mountain bike specialists with Likeleli Masitise in action in the women’s cross-country while Phetetso Monese and Tumelo Makae will contest the men’s cross-country.
Friday, April 13
In the women’s 800 metres Lesotho will be represented by Olympian Tšepang Sello while there is also the men’s 10 000 metres race where Badboy Toka and Ramolefi Motsieloa will be in action.
Friday, April 13-14
Boxing matches will be happening over two days. ‘Mantoa Ranone will represent Lesotho in the women’s 57kg boxing competition while Thabo Molefe (52kg), Moroke Mokhotho (56kg), Qhobosheane Mohlerepe (60kg), Moshoeshoe Mokhachane (69kg) as well as Kokole Paneng (75kg) will be competing in the men’s tournament in their different weight groups.
Saturday, April 14
The men’s cycling road race will feature Malefetsane Lesofe.
Sunday, April 15
The final day of the Commonwealth Game is the marathon day for men and women. ‘Neheng Khatala and Tšepo Mathibelle will be in action.
